Jesus Christ is the most significant figure to ever exist. The reason is not merely because he was a moral man who has inspired millions of people to live better lives, but because, as the Bible teaches us, He is both fully God and fully Human. The Bible makes it clear that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh (John 1). He was not a man who became a god but rather the eternal God who put on human flesh without losing any of his divinity. He was born as we are born, raised by blue-collar parents, had brothers and sisters, learned as we learn, and grew as we grow. However, the greatest part of all is that, even though Jesus lived a human life, he lived it perfectly, because He is God.

We are told in Scripture that Jesus began His public ministry (most likely around age 30) and began to teach, perform miracles, and encounter people in ways that would forever change their lives. In all of these ministries He consistently led people to a life-transforming relationship with God the Father.

Then, only three years into his public ministry, He was betrayed by one of His closest friends, abandoned by the rest of them, and ultimately led to his execution on a Roman cross. It was a brutal process. He was beaten to within an inch of his life before being forced to carry His own cross to the place of His death. He was then nailed (by His hands and feet) to that rugged, bloody piece of wood. Then He was propped up and suspended, all the weight of His body being held by those nails, for roughly six, agonizing hours. And yet, we know from Scripture that the physical suffering He endured pales in comparison to the spiritual suffering He endured by absorbing the Father's wrath towards the sins of the whole world, from the first to the last.

However, His death was not an accident. It was in the plan of God (Acts 4:27-28). It was destined to happen so that you and I, sinners, could be forgiven, redeemed, made new. But His death would not be the end of the story.

Three days later Jesus rose to Life. Truly, bodily, and victorious He conquered sin, death, hell, the devil, and now lives eternally for us, giving us security of new life, hope, and peace in Him.

He accomplished for us what we could never accomplish for ourselves. He lived the life we should have lived, He died the death that we should have died, and He now continually draws us to Himself to receive that reconciliation and newness we so desperately need.
